Raw Mango Drink (Aam Panna)

Description

Refreshing Aam Panna, a summer cooler made with seasonal raw mangoes and spices like cumin and fennel seeds. Aam Panna is a natural coolant prepared with raw mango pulp, sugar, spices, and mint leaves. Learn how to make mango panna in a few simple steps.


Ingredients

  • 350 grams raw green mangoes around 6 small
  • 4 cups water divided
  • 3/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper or as needed
  • 1 teaspoon black salt
  • 2530 mint leaves

Instructions

  • Peel the raw mangoes and then cut them into small pieces.
  • Transfer the cut pieces to a pan and add 1 cup water to it. Cook on medium heat till the mangoes pieces are soft, around 10 minutes.
  • Remove pan from heat and transfer the softened mango (along with the water in which it was cooked) to a blender. Let it cool down a little.
  • Add 3 cups cold water, mint leaves and sugar. Blend to a smooth paste.
  • Strain the liquid into another bowl, add cumin powder, black salt and black pepper. Mix till everything is well combined.
  • Transfer aam panna to a glass bottle and keep refrigerated.
  • To serve, fill 2/3rd to 3/4th of a glass with aam panna mixture, fill remaining with cold water and serve chilled with fresh mint leaves.

Notes

  • Instead of white sugar, you can add light brown sugar, jaggery, or sugar syrup. 
  • Make sure to clean and wash the mangoes nicely before cooking else aam panna might taste bitter or not suitable for consumption.
  • For health benefits, aam panna is best consumed chilled or cold.
  • Avoid drinking warm aam panna. 
  • Store mango panna in the fridge only and not at room temperature.
