Description
Bhel puri is a popular Indian savory street food snack made using puffed rice (murmura), paapdi, roasted peanuts, sev, boiled potatoes, onions, tomatoes, sweet-tangy chutneys, and spice powders. It is a quick, easy-to-make snack, slightly sweet, spicy, and tangy snack. Here, I’m sharing Mumbai’s most famous Bhel puri Chaat recipe that is sour, tangy, crispy, sweet, salty, and crunchy.

Ingredients
- 2 cups puffed rice (murmura)
- 5–6 paapdi (crunchy salty wafers)
- 1 tablespoon roasted peanuts
- ½ cup sev (crunchy thin noodles) made from gram flour
- ½ cup onions
- ½ cup boiled potatoes
- ½ cup tomatoes
- 1 green chilli
- 2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves
- ½ tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons tamarind chutney
- 2 teaspoons green coriander chutney
- Salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
Instructions
- In a pan, dry roast the puffed rice on low heat if they are not crisp. Then cool them at room temperature.
- In a large bowl add boiled potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and chopped green chilli.
- Add 5-6 pieces of namkeen papdi, roasted peanuts, and sev.
- Add the roasted puffed rice, red chilli powder, chaat masala powder, and salt to taste.
- Add tamarind chutney (imli ki chutney) and green coriander chutney along with a dash of fresh lemon juice and mix all the ingredients well.
- Garnish it with sev and chopped coriander leaves before serving
- Bhel puri is ready to serve.
Notes
- Roast the puffed rice a little bit till they become crisp and then cool it down completely.
- Keep all the ingredients ready before assembling everything.
- Serve bhel puri as soon as you assemble it, else it will become soft and soggy.
- According to your taste preference, adjust the spice powders and salt.
- If you don’t have chutneys, you may also use tomato ketchup or prepare a dry version by adding paapdi, roasted peanuts, and sev.
