Description

Bajra Roti is simple, nutritious and healthy variant of roti made with the goodness of bajra, generally consumed with chutney, gud (jaggery) and butter, absolutely delicious and easy to make.

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 cups bajra (black millet) flour
  • ¼ cup whole wheat flour + for rolling
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 teaspoon ghee for greasing or white butter
  • 1 cup warm water

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, sieve the bajra flour, whole wheat flour and salt to taste. Combine all together well.
  • Add warm water, a little at a time and knead it to make medium soft dough.
  • Divide the dough into 7-8 equal portions and roll them into balls shape.
  • Wet your palms with water, take a ball and pat it between your palms, gently roll the roti by using little wheat flour to make a 4-5 inch disc thick round in shape. Make it as thin as possible.
  • Heat the tawa or non-stick griddle/pan on medium flame.
  • Place the roti on hot tawa one by one, flip it over when one side is cooked.
  • Cook both the sides on a low flame until brown spot appears.
  • Apply some ghee or butter generously.
  • Serve hot with chutney, gud (jaggery) or curries.

Notes

  • Make sure to use fresh bajra flour else the rotis will break while preparing.
  • When you take a small ball to roll, knead it again for a minute. This is the most important step to make perfectly round shaped roties.
  • You may directly cook bajre ki roti on the hot flame from both the sides until browned and served after putting ghee.
  • If you are trying to make it at home, you can use a zip lock bag or an aluminum sheet or a plastic sheet and then use a rolling pin to make.
  • Serve immediately with ghee or white butter. If it cools down completely, it will feel very hard and dry to eat.
