Pea Puree

Pea Puree

Pea Puree – a fantastic accompaniment with vibrant color, mild taste and is so much more than a first food for babies. Many parents serve their babies purees and it can be a delicious way to add fruits, vegetable and cereals to your baby meal.

Peas are a great source of protein, fiber, vitamins K and C. As a first food, this pea puree is simple, easy to make less than 10 minutes. If fresh peas are not available than you can make using frozen peas at any time. The minty fresh aroma gives this puree the vibrant green colour which hits all the senses.

Generally, peas have a naturally sweet taste that appeals to the most babies and young children. This puree is combined with a range of foods to make delicious dishes.

Here is my recipe for pea puree – simple, easy and a great source of nutrients for your baby!

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 cups around 250 grams fresh or frozen peas
  • 5 mint leaves roughly chopped
  • 4 tablespoons water (more if required)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (more if required)

Instructions

  • In a medium pan, add water to boil. Add the peas. Cover it and steam for 3-5 minutes. Let it cool slightly.
  • Add peas and mint leaves to a blender or food processor and blend for 1 minute or until you get the right consistency. If puree is too thick, add water to achieve desired texture.
  • Add the lemon juice to the puree.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a silky smooth puree always pour the blended puree into a fine sieve and with the help of the back of a spoon press it thoroughly.
  • Make sure not to overcook the peas. Once boiled, immediately add them to a bowl of ice water.
  • You can store this puree in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and can be frozen for up to 3 months
  • Cuisine: Indian
