Jal Jeera is a very popular refreshing Indian drink during the hot and scorching summers. The word ‘Jal’ is water and ‘Jeera’ is cumin in English. Basically, Jal Jeera is a mix of Indian spices and herbs mixed with cumin water to keep the body energize and also helps in digestion. It is not only a refreshing drink but also a good appetizer because of its digestive properties . Most commonly it served chilled before meals. You can have it in between the meal also.

This drink is such a nutritious, cooling and digestive drink made of cumin, fresh mint, coriander leaves, fennel seeds, fresh ginger, black peppercorns(optional), dry mango powder, black salt and tamarind pulp for perfect summer refreshment. All these ingredients makes this drink tangy, sour, aromatic and spicy full of flavor. In many Indian households, the ingredients and the amount may differs but basic recipe procedure remains the same.

Some people make it using a traditional method, like they used sil-batta (grindstone) to grind all the ingredients together with adding little water and finally store in earthen pots. Some people find easy using blenders that helps to make this refreshing drink in just few seconds.

Jal Jeera tastes best when it served chilled. You can use chilled water and some ice cubes to blend the mixture or you can store in refrigerator in a glass jar, for 3-4 hrs or until chilled. Jal Jeera is just like a spiced lemonade. You can buy the store-bought Jal-jeera packets, but this don’t taste that good as the fresh Jal Jeera .

Let see how to make this delicious Indian Summer Cooler Jal Jeera in couple of minutes.
