What is a Club sandwich?

As the name suggests, that it is packed with veggies from lettuce to bell pepper or any choice of vegetables stuffed inside into the toasted bread slices. The word club sandwich is recognized by its three bread layers. The layers are held together with toothpicks and then cut into halves or quarters.

Traditionally, this sandwich is quite similar to BLT but also includes lettuce, cheese, and mayo. Of course, there are various versions of making this club sandwich that you love eating at your favorite restaurants or cafes.

About this recipe

Here, we have made the vegetarian version of a club sandwich which is made using veggies like cabbage, carrot, onion, cucumber, tomato, capsicum, and also mayonnaise. It tastes best when served immediately.

In this recipe, the sandwich ingredients are into 2 layers. Both the layers of this sandwich have a special filling, made using cabbage, carrot, capsicum, and mayo. The first layer has sliced onions, cucumbers along with the filling. The second layer is covered with the same filling along with sliced tomatoes, shredded cabbage, and mayo. The outer layer is crisp and you can enjoy different flavors in all the layers of the sandwich.

Serving suggestions

These sandwiches have a special filling that is perfect for children. You could make these for breakfast, a picnic, or pack these also in your lunch box.

If you are planning to make it for any party, then you can do some preparations beforehand like making the cabbage salad, sandwich chutney and Mayo spread, slicing the cucumber and tomatoes, and keep it in the refrigerator. Grilling and assembling the sandwich does not take much time. If made earlier, the sandwich may turn soggy. Making this veg club sandwich becomes easier if you have everything ready.

So, do try this amazingly delicious veg club sandwich recipe right now.

Description

This veg club sandwich is a popular 3 layered bread sandwich that is to be famous street food in Mumbai restaurants. It is made using veggies like cabbage, carrot, onion, cucumber, tomato, capsicum, and also mayonnaise and then cut into quarters or halves and secured together by toothpicks or cocktail sticks. Thus, it is a quick, healthy, and delicious sandwich recipe that can be ready in minutes. You can have it as a brunch, an evening snack, or as a complete meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 white bread slices
  • Butter

For the filling

  • 2 cups cabbage shredded
  • 1 cup capsicum sliced
  • 1 cup carrot shredded
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 1 cucumber sliced
  • 1 tomato sliced
  • Shredded cabbage as needed
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise (eggless or vegan mayo)
  • Salt as required
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Other ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise

Instructions

Grill the bread slices

  • Take 3 slices of white bread and cut the edges of the bread.
  • Spread some butter and grill the bread slices until brown.

For the Filling

  • In a bowl, add shredded cabbage, sliced capsicum, shredded carrot, 4 tablespoons mayonnaise, salt to taste, and black pepper.
  • Toss everything well and set it aside.

Assembling the Veg Club Sandwich

  • Take the first grilled bread slice and spread 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup evenly on it.
  • Put the prepared filling on it.
  • Next, add the cucumber slices and onions. Sprinkle salt, black pepper powder on it.
  • Now cover this with a second bread slice. Place the filling again on the bread.
  • Then add sliced tomatoes and shredded cabbage on top.
  • Finally cover the sandwich with one more bread slice and apply ketchup and mayonnaise to it.
  • Cover it with this bread slice. Cut the sandwich in halves.
  • Insert a toothpick or skewer in the corner to hold together the sandwich from falling apart.
  • Serve immediately with tomato ketchup or green chutney aside.

Notes

  • You can replace white bread with the use of whole wheat, brown, multi-grain bread for the sandwiches to make it healthy.
  • Instead of grilling bread slices, you can also toast the bread slices.
  • You can also use green chutney to make it spicy.
  • Skip the cabbage if you don’t like the taste of cabbage.
  • Additionally, you can also use mozzarella cheese slices or grated cheese to give a cheesy touch.
