Description

Peanut chaat is a delightful and flavourful Indian street food snack made with roasted peanuts, vegetables, and spices. It’s a popular and easy-to-make dish that offers a perfect balance of textures and flavours. Here’s a more detailed description of peanut chaat:

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup raw peanuts
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 2–3 green chilies, slit lengthwise
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  • In a pan, dry roast the peanuts on medium heat until they turn golden brown and crunchy. Keep stirring to avoid burning. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  • Once cooled, coarsely grind the peanuts using a food processor or mortar and pestle. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a separate pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  • Add the finely chopped onions and green chilies to the pan. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  • Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  • Add the coarsely ground peanuts to the pan and stir everything together until the spices are well combined.
  • Cook for a few more minutes, allowing the flavours to meld together.
  • Remove from heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  • Serve Peanut Chakhna with lemon wedges for an extra tangy flavor.

Notes

  • Make sure to roast the peanuts until they are crispy to enhance their taste.
  • Adjust the spice levels according to your preference by adding more or less red chili powder and green chilies.
  • For variations, you can add chopped tomatoes, grated coconut, or roasted spices like chaat masala or garam masala for an extra kick of flavour.
