Peanut chaat is a popular Indian street food snack made with roasted peanuts, spices, vegetables, and tangy chutneys. It is a flavorful and crunchy dish that combines the nuttiness of peanuts with the freshness of vegetables.

Peanut chaat can be served as a standalone snack or as part of a larger chaat platter. It is commonly enjoyed as street food, served in paper cones or bowls. The combination of flavours in peanut chaat, ranging from the nuttiness of peanuts to the tanginess of chutneys and the freshness of vegetables, makes it a popular and delicious choice for those seeking a savoury and satisfying snack.

      Ingredients

Roasted peanuts: The star ingredient of the chaat, roasted peanuts provide a crunchy and nutty element to the dish.

Vegetables: Commonly used vegetables include finely chopped onions, green chilli, and ginger-garlic paste. This adds freshness and a contrast of textures to the chaat.

Spices: A blend of spices such as cumin, mustard, red chili powder, turmeric powder and salt are added to enhance the taste of the chaat.

Garnishes: Finely chopped coriander leaves, and lemon wedges.

      Serving Suggestions:

Peanut Chaat  is a popular snack to enjoy with drinks or as an accompaniment to your evening tea.

It can be served on its own or alongside other chaat options like roasted masala chickpeas, fried moong dal, or sev.

You can also serve it as a topping for chaats or sprinkle it over salads for added crunch and flavour.

Peanut chaat is a versatile and delicious snack that offers a burst of flavours and textures. It’s a great choice for those who enjoy the combination of tangy, sweet, and spicy tastes in their food.

      Description

Peanut chaat is a delightful and flavourful Indian street food snack made with roasted peanuts, vegetables, and spices. It’s a popular and easy-to-make dish that offers a perfect balance of textures and flavours. Here’s a more detailed description of peanut chaat:

      Scale

      Ingredients

      • 1 cup raw peanuts
      • 1 tablespoon oil
      • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
      • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
      • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
      • 2–3 green chilies, slit lengthwise
      • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
      • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
      • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
      • Salt to taste
      • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
      • Lemon wedges (for serving)

      Instructions

      • In a pan, dry roast the peanuts on medium heat until they turn golden brown and crunchy. Keep stirring to avoid burning. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
      • Once cooled, coarsely grind the peanuts using a food processor or mortar and pestle. Set aside.
      • Heat oil in a separate pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
      • Add the finely chopped onions and green chilies to the pan. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
      • Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
      • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
      • Add the coarsely ground peanuts to the pan and stir everything together until the spices are well combined.
      • Cook for a few more minutes, allowing the flavours to meld together.
      • Remove from heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
      • Serve Peanut Chakhna with lemon wedges for an extra tangy flavor.

      Notes

      • Make sure to roast the peanuts until they are crispy to enhance their taste.
      • Adjust the spice levels according to your preference by adding more or less red chili powder and green chilies.
      • For variations, you can add chopped tomatoes, grated coconut, or roasted spices like chaat masala or garam masala for an extra kick of flavour.
