Dalgona coffee is a whipped, frothy iced coffee drink is made with only 5 ingredients instant coffee powder, sugar, water, ice, and milk.  It is also known by other names like “whipped coffee”, “frothy coffee”, or “fluffy coffee” or whatever you say it. It has two distinct layers of whipped coffee cream sitting on top of iced milk.

If you have had tried Starbucks Frappucino, then this milky Iced coffee is much similar in that way – strong, frothy and very refreshing.

What Is Dalgona Coffee?

Dalgona coffee is a whipped, frothy iced coffee drink became viral overnight on TikTok and all over social media platforms in the year 2020. Dalgona coffee gets its name from dalgona, a candy from South Korea that’s just like honeycomb toffee or sponge toffee.

It is just a cold coffee drink with a little twist, made with instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and milk.  It has two distinct layers – the top one is whipped coffee cream and iced milk at the lowest. As a result, it is known by other names too like “whipped coffee”, “frothy coffee”, or “fluffy coffee.”

This 5 minutes frothy coffee recipe is so simple, that you can make using by hand whisker or electric beater at home easily. The coffee cream has to be super frothy, smooth, and velvety, or sweet to make this coffee.

Ingredients

Here is the ingredients list to make this dalgona coffee recipe:

  • Instant Coffee powder – To make this coffee, always use Instant Coffee Powder like Nescafe or Bru.
  • Hot water – It is very important to use very hot water to whip the coffee.
  • Cold milk – You can use any dairy free milk of your choice. I have used regular milk to make this recipe,
  • Sugar (granulated white sugar) – I made this coffee using regular white granulated sugar but you can use brown sugar, raw sugar, coconut sugar as well.
  • A whisk or hand mixer – You can use a hand mixer, whisk, fork, spoon, or milk frother to whip the coffee.

Difference between cold coffee and dalgona coffee

The difference between cold coffee recipe and dalgona is different from the texture and the use of ice cream. The cold coffee is made with the blended milk, coffee, ice and ice cream. Dalgona doesn’t contain ice cream in it, only you need frothy airy coffee foam to top the chilled milk

Serving Suggestions

This creamy whipped coffee is absolutely irresistible and a great way to make your morning coffee super special. It is served by adding the thick coffee mixture on top of the milk and ice, but to drink this coffee you have to mix it well until everything combines.

While serving, you can also sprinkle coffee or cinnamon powder or chocolate syrup, if you wish to.

Storage Suggestions

You can make the frothy coffee mixture in advance and store it in the fridge in an airtight container for about a week. Whenever you want to serve it, add ice cubes, pour milk, and top with whipped coffee mixture. Mix well and then sip it using a straw or directly from the glass.

Do try this Korean style “whipped coffee” at home and tell us how it tastes like.

Description

Dalgona coffee is a whipped, frothy iced coffee drink made with only 5 ingredients instant coffee powder, sugar, water, ice, and milk.  It is also known as   “whipped coffee”, “frothy coffee”, or “fluffy coffee.” It has two distinct layers of whipped coffee cream sitting on top of iced milk. Try this trendy and deliciously whipped coffee recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons Instant Coffee
  • 3 tablespoons sugar granulated or refined sugar
  • 2.5 tablespoons hot water
  • 1 cup milk cold
  • Ice Cubes

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine instant coffee powder, sugar, and hot water.
  • Whisk it well using a hand whisker or electric beater continuously in one direction for 2 to 4 minutes until the coffee mixture forms a stiff peak and is doubled in volume.
  • Dalgona coffee mixture is ready, keep aside.
  • Add 2-3 ice cubes to a mug or serving glass.
  • Pour over the cold milk to it.
  • Then, add the whipped coffee cream on top of the milk.
  • Sprinkle some coffee or cinnamon powder or chocolate syrup on top (optional).
  • Dalgona coffee is ready to serve!

Notes

  • For making Dalgona coffee, always use instant coffee powder.
  • Use very hot water while making this coffee. It will help to dissolve the coffee and sugar instantly. If the water is not hot, then you won’t get that creamy texture.
  • Do not use powdered sugar and sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, and coconut sugar, or dates syrup. Only granulated sugar works best for this recipe.
  • If you want, you can skip ice cubes can but make sure to use chilled milk.
  • To make it quickly, add the coffee, hot water, and sugar to a small mixer-grinder jar and blend until you get a creamy consistency.
  • It is totally up to you either you make hot coffee or cold coffee. I have shared the cold coffee version here. To make hot coffee, just add hot milk instead of chilled milk.
  • For the vegan option, you can use any dairy-free milk like almond milk, cashew milk, soy milk and oats milk, etc.
