Aam Panna is a popular summer soothing beverage in northern and western parts of India. A delightful, natural summer cooler that not only refresh but also energize, prepared during the summer with green unripe mangoes pulp, sugar, spices, and mint leaves. It is a refreshing drink which instantly hydrates our body from the scorching heat because its cooling or heat resistant properties. This has a tangy sweet taste and its preparation takes only a couple of minutes. This Aam panna recipe is so easy to make with seasonal raw mangoes and it is known by different names too such as Aam panha, Amiya panna, Aam pora shorbet or kairi panha.

The mangoes and mint combination aids liver functions better help for upset stomach or indigestion, prevent from sunstroke, reduce constipation, lose weight, and many more. There are many versions of aam panna. Some people use Jaggery and some use sugar. The colour of the aam panna depends on what sweetener you use to make the drink. The best time to drink this Aam panna is from April to June or during the peak of the summers.

Description

Refreshing Aam Panna, a summer cooler made with seasonal raw mangoes and spices like cumin and fennel seeds. Aam Panna is a natural coolant prepared with raw mango pulp, sugar, spices, and mint leaves. Learn how to make mango panna in a few simple steps.


Ingredients

  • 350 grams raw green mangoes around 6 small
  • 4 cups water divided
  • 3/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper or as needed
  • 1 teaspoon black salt
  • 25–30 mint leaves

Instructions

  • Peel the raw mangoes and then cut them into small pieces.
  • Transfer the cut pieces to a pan and add 1 cup water to it. Cook on medium heat till the mangoes pieces are soft, around 10 minutes.
  • Remove pan from heat and transfer the softened mango (along with the water in which it was cooked) to a blender. Let it cool down a little.
  • Add 3 cups cold water, mint leaves and sugar. Blend to a smooth paste.
  • Strain the liquid into another bowl, add cumin powder, black salt and black pepper. Mix till everything is well combined.
  • Transfer aam panna to a glass bottle and keep refrigerated.
  • To serve, fill 2/3rd to 3/4th of a glass with aam panna mixture, fill remaining with cold water and serve chilled with fresh mint leaves.

Notes

  • Instead of white sugar, you can add light brown sugar, jaggery, or sugar syrup. 
  • Make sure to clean and wash the mangoes nicely before cooking else aam panna might taste bitter or not suitable for consumption.
  • For health benefits, aam panna is best consumed chilled or cold.
  • Avoid drinking warm aam panna. 
  • Store mango panna in the fridge only and not at room temperature.
