Lassi/Punjabi Lassi is one of the popular Indian chilled beverages all across India. Mostly Punjab and North Indian states are famous for making this drink. Lassi can be prepared in two ways – Salty and Sweet. Generally, traditional Punjabi lassi is salty, but sweet and savory lassi is equally preferred. In India, you can find various street vendors selling Lassi in kulhad or earthen pots or mitti ka glass, because, earlier curd was kept in clay pots or matkas which would make it cold.

Lassi is one of India’s best summer drinks, refreshing and cools your body down. It also helps to beat the scorching heat and quench your thirst. By making, Mango Lassi, Badam Lassi, Chocolate Lassi, Strawberry Lassi, Rose Lassi, Masala Lassi, and with numerous variations, you can give a delicious twist to the traditional sweet Lassi.

Health benefits of Lassi

  • Lassi is a comforting ideal drink during summer. Usually, it helps in digestion if we have it after the meal.
  • It also cools down your body because it has natural cooling properties and hydrates you from within.
  • It is a good source of probiotics, which prevents any stomach-related problems like gas, bloating.
  • It is rich in calcium that helps the bone stronger.
  • It also builds our immunity & stamina if consume daily.
About this Recipe

Traditionally, lassi is made by using a wooden churner (called mathni) but nowadays to make things easier, we can simply whisk the curd either in a mixer grinder or the hand blender is used.

In Punjab, Sweet Lassi, also known as Meethi lassi is a yogurt-based drink – thick, creamy heavier, more like a milkshake consistency. It is completely different from the chaas recipe because it has wonderful flavors of cardamom, saffron, and dry fruits. This taste is just like the ones you get from Punjabi Dhaba, so thick, rich, yummy, and delightful!

Serving Suggestions

As a refreshing drink, the best to serve lassi is chilled in a tall glass with your breakfast, brunch, or lunch or after any Indian meal.

I love to serve this sweet lassi with some chopped nuts like pistachios or almonds and saffron strands on top.

Storage

You can store your leftover lassi in the refrigerator for up to 1 or 2 days. Do not add ice cubes if you plan to store them.

So, here, I have prepared Punjabi Lassi which can be made within 5 minutes with fewer ingredients. Make this drink today and enjoy it as an after-meal dessert or snack!

Hope you enjoy this Sweet Lassi recipe !! If you give this recipe a try, please let me know on the recipe comment section.
