Description

Mawa peda is an easy, super delicious sweet recipe made with 2 main ingredients – Mawa/khoya and powdered sugar (boora). It is a simple mouth-watering dessert recipe that we get easily at any Indian sweet shop. Learn how to make Halwai style Peda at home-

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2½ cups (500 grams) mawa/khoya
  • 1½ cups (300 grams) powdered sugar or boora
  • 14–15 small green cardamom seeds
  • Few almonds or pistachios, finely chopped for garnishing

Instructions

  • In a heavy-bottomed pan, add the grated mawa.
  • Stir continuously the mawa well on low flame till it becomes light pink.
  • Turn off the flame.
  • Take out the mixture in a tray and then allow the roasted mawa to cool down a bit.
  • Add 6 to 7 grounded cardamoms to the mawa mixture.
  • Now, the mixture is ready to make Pedas.
  • Meanwhile, ground the remaining cardamoms. Also finely chop the almonds and pistachios.
  • Apply a little ghee on your palms and fingers.
  • Take a little portion of the mixture. Then start rolling to form round shape.
  • Make smooth and crack-free small pedas from the mixture.
  • Grease the plate with ghee and make all the pedas one by one and put them on the plate.
  • Put 3 to 4 seeds of cardamom and add little chopped nuts in the center of the peda and gently press it with your hand.
  • Set aside these prepared pedas for 1 to 2 hours in the open air so that they become dry.
  • In this way, Delicious Halwai Style Mawa Peda can be ready at home.

Notes

  • Mawa takes a long time to roast but this process makes your pedas much tastier.
  • You can also roast the mawa in the microwave without covering. It takes 4-5 minutes and then the mawa gets roasted very well.
  • Tagar is also known as boora in some places. Basically, it is granulated just like semolina. You can make it at home with sugar too.
  • These pedas are made by pressing the mawa in the round mold or flattened pedas by hand.
  • You can store the remaining pedas in an air-tight container so that you can eat them for a week.
  • You can also make colored pedas by adding yellow color or saffron to the mawa mixture.
  • Adding kewda essence to the mawa, makes it flavorful.
