Sandesh’ or ‘Shondesh is traditional Bengali sweet, lightly flavored cheese fudge originated in West Bengal and now popular all over India and abroad. People say in Bengal that “No meal is complete without mishti or sweets”. Traditionally, it is prepared with milk and sugar as the two main ingredients. This is chenna based sweet recipe just like other Bengali sweets like rasgulla, rasmalai and chum chum. It is extremely easy and delicious. These are perfectly sweet and tempting Sandesh, great for festivals, holidays, parties, and gifting.Basically, sweet moist fudge made from Indian cottage cheese (paneer) and garnished with some fruits and dry fruits. Here, I am using some orange slices, orange juice and dry fruits like almonds and pistachios to make this recipe.

- 300 gms paneer
- 4 to 5 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon orange juice
- 2 drops orange essence (optional)
- 2 drops orange colour (optional)
- 4 almonds (badam), blanched and sliced
- 4 blanched and sliced pistachios
- For garnish - 2 oranges pulp
Instructions
- Knead the paneer thoroughly with the sugar.
- Add the orange juice, orange essence and orange color and mix well.
- Spread half this mixture to form a 125 mm. square on a plate or dish.
- Arrange half the orange segments on top.
- Cover with the remaining paneer mixture, spreading it evenly on top chill.
- Using a cutter, cut into small circles and serve. You can also shape the sandesh by hand and fill the orange and nuts inside.
