Sesame toast is one of the popular Indo-Chinese snacks, crisp, delicious vegan party treat or an easy breakfast toast recipe made with any type of bread stuffed with veggies and coated with a generous amount of sesame seeds. Then shallow fried in oil or even be toasted in toaster or in a grill. If you use a non-stick pan, you can make this toast using very little oil thus making it healthier. I have shallow fried the toast instead of deep frying.

The toast can be prepared within very less time. So, when you are in rush, you can simply boil or steam the potatoes and the veggies a night before, mash them and store it into the fridge. You can prepare the toast very easily next day in the morning. Then it becomes easy to make the toast in the morning hours.

However, the toast can be made with White bread, Whole wheat bread or even multigrain bread but here I have used brown bread to make this toast. Sesame and veggies adds a lot of nutrition value in this toast as well as crunch and flavor. As it contains sesame seeds that is loaded with nutrients like vitamins, minerals, iron, calcium, magnesium, fibre, protein, etc.

If you need some new breakfast ideas than this sesame toast is a perfect snack option for a kid’s party or to make for breakfast or for an evening snack time.

Ingredients

You need the following ingredients to make potato sesame toast recipe:

Bread: Whole wheat bread is used in this recipe. You can use white bread or multi grain bread too.

Few Veggies: I have used peeled, boiled and mashed potatoes for this recipe. Also, I have added the finely chopped onion, ginger, carrots, French Beans, American sweet corn, green capsicum, and green chilli. Green chillies make the toast slightly spicy. But you can avoid if you like less spice.

Sesame seeds: The star ingredient of the recipe is sesame seeds and must be used generously in making this bread toast with sesame and potato.

Spices: This recipe is very simple contained  black pepper powder, red chilli flakes, Italian seasoning used for this bread snacks recipe. If you like you may add for more flavor a pinch of chat masala to the stuffing.

Serving Suggestions

The best time to serve the Sesame Toast during tea time evening snack along with masala chai or as an appetizer for dinner parties or pack it in the lunch/snack box.

Well if you are in party mood and thinking of what to make in starter or snack then Sesame Toast is perfect dish for you.

Description

Sesame toast is one of the popular Indo-Chinese snacks, is the crisp, delicious vegan party treat that is stuffed with veggies and coated with sesame. It is a perfect snack for a kid’s party or to make for breakfast or for an evening snack time.

Ingredients

Scale

For Toast Filling

  • 5 medium potatoes boiled, and mashed
  • ¼ cup carrots, slightly boil finely chopped
  • ¼ cup French beans, slightly boil finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons American sweet corn
  • ¼ cup green capsicum, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup onions, finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper powder or as required
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning/ oregano (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Other Ingredients

  • 8 bread slices (white bread, brown bread or whole wheat)
  • ½ cup roasted sesame seeds or as required
  • Oil for cooking

Instructions

For Sesame Toast Filling

  • First, boil the potato and then mash it with the help of a masher until smooth. Also, parboil the carrots and beans. Then finely chop them.
  • Then finely chop the onions, capsicum, green chili, and grate the ginger.
  • Take a large bowl, and add the mashed potatoes to it.
  • Now mix all the finely chopped vegetables like carrots, beans, corn, capsicum, onion, green chillies, and grated ginger.
  • Add the spiced like black pepper powder, red chilli flakes, Italian seasoning, and salt to taste. Mix it until all the ingredients are well combined. Sesame Toast filling is now ready.

How to make Sesame Toast

  • Take a bread slice and cut the bread into rectangular or triangle or small shaped squares (as desired), and spread around 2 tablespoons of the veggie filling evenly on the bread slice. Lightly press with the spatula, so that the filling sticks to the bread easily.
  • Take a plate, spread the roasted sesame seeds, and dip the bread with the filling one by one on the roasted sesame seeds and press down firmly. Do this same with the rest of the bread pieces.
  • In a medium-sized frying pan, heat little oil on medium flame and shallow fry the sesame toast for 2-3 minutes until each side turns golden brown and crisp.
  • Serve hot with tomato ketchup or green chutney or chili sauce or schezuan sauce.

Notes

  • You can also deep-fry the sesame toast on a Tawa with little butter or oil.
  • You need to chop the vegetables finely; else you won’t be able to cook them properly.
  • You can cut the bread slice into different shapes like thin strips, rectangles, triangles, or round.
  • Remember to keep the flame low to medium while frying sesame toast in oil, else oil might cause burning.
  • Instead of shallow-fried the bread, you can also deep-fry these toast.
  • Make sure, the bread slices turn brown and crispier from both sides and the sesame seeds coating should be cooked properly.
  • Always serve hot with schezwan chutney or any other favorite chutney. It tastes best when eaten hot.
