Candied Cranberries, sometimes called candied or sugared or frosted cranberries are a surprisingly delicious festive snack or dessert. These sweet and tart cranberries are extremely simple to make with just 3 simple ingredients – 1. Fresh cranberries 2. Granulated sugar 3. Water.

These sparkling Candied cranberries, simply dip in a sugar syrup then rolled in granulated sugar until well coated. This recipe takes little time to prepare and costs only a couple of rupees. You can use these candied cranberries as a garnish to your favorite dessert or drink or cake or cupcakes. You can easily make many of recipes made with cranberries such as punch or shake, cranberry sauce and of course Cranberry Cake in this season of cranberries.

These cranberries candy are edible; you can eat them. They are sweet, tangy and delicious too. I think raw cranberries can be very tart on their own but once dip in sugar syrup and coated with sugar almost gives an amazing taste like candy.

Well, if you want to try something new, these sugared cranberries candy is a fun recipe.

Description

The fresh tart candied cranberries or sugared cranberries are surprisingly a delicious festive snack or dessert. It takes just few minutes of cooking. These tart candied cranberries are the perfect garnish to any dessert, and are delicious on their own, too.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups fresh cranberries (rinsed and dried)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar (divided)
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

  •  Combine ½ cup water and ½ cup granulated sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat until the sugar dissolves completely or until slightly become thickened syrup for coating the cranberries.
  • Bring to a boil for 3 minutes on low flame. Stir the cranberries into the syrup until they’re all coated well and then remove from heat and stir 1 minute. Let it cool the syrup at room temperature.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the cranberries from the syrup and then transfer them to a parchment lined baking sheet or on a cooling to drain. Let the cranberries dry at least for 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Roll the cranberries in the remaining 1 cup sugar to coat, a few at a time in the sugar until fully coated.
  • When the sugar is dried completely on the cranberries, this beautiful candy ready to store.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool, dry place for up to 2 days.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • Wash and dry the cranberries well because on to the dry cranberries the syrup will stick better.
  • Let the syrup simmer on low heat for 3 minutes after it’s come to a boil. The sugar must completely dissolve and form a slightly thickened syrup for coating the cranberries.
  • When to choose the cranberries for candies, discard any soft or squishy ones. They won’t give taste good!
  • The Best Sugar for Cranberries is granulated sugar because it gives the cranberries an even coating, but you can also use cane sugar.
  • If you find that sugar starts looking moist, you can re-roll them in a little more sugar to freshen them up.
