Veg Chowmein, a dish made from noodles with mixed vegetables and flavored to Chinese sauces. The word “Chow’ means stir-fried  and ‘mein’ means ‘noodles’.

Making this dish is a quick and easy process. It can be enjoyed at any celebration time as a snack or as a complete meal with any Chinese side dishe like Vegetable Manchurian.

Veg Chowmein noodles, originated from Chinese food is very popular in India and many south east Asian countries.

It can be known as a popular street food, especially kids love this dish because of tangy flavor, which makes it delicious in taste.

Veg Chowmein not only delicious in taste but also nutritious along with vegetables. Therefore it is a fulsome dish for a healthy dinner as well. To make it healthier you can opt for whole grain noodles and increase the amount of vegetables and Moong bean (sprouts) optional used.

Veg Chowmein

Serves: Serve Immediately
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Level: Easy

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Noodles cooked (as per instructions on pkt)
  • ½ cup Fresh vegetable stock
  • ½ cup French beans (Farsi) chopped in small pieces
  • 1 cup Moong bean (sprouts) (soaked overnight) optional
  • 1 Carrot (Gajar) thinly sliced
  • ½ cup Coriander leaves (Dhaniya) finely chopped
  • 1 Onion (Pyaaz) finely long sliced
  • 2 stalks Celery / spring onions (Hara pyaaz) cut in small pieces
  • 1 inch piece Ginger (Adrak) thinly sliced
  • 3 Garlic cloves (Lehsun) finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Dark soya sauce
  • 1 tbsp Light soya sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Oil

Instructions

  1. First boil the noodles for 4-5 minutes or as per the package instruction. Add 1 tsp of salt. Drain and rinse well with cold water. Place the noodles in a tray and toss with 1 tbsp of oil.
  2. Second, heat a pan, add 2 tbsp of oil and stir-fry garlic, ginger and onion for 2 mins on high flame.
  3. Then add all the veggies celery, carrot, beans and continue to stir-fry for 5 mins until golden brown.
  4. Mix well and continue cooking for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Now add salt to taste also add soya sauce (light & dark), ½ cup veg stock, moong bean (sprouts) and mix well.
  6. Add boiled noodles and toss everything together till noodles is coated with mixture well
  7. While serving noodles remain in the bottom while the vegetables and sauce mixture is on top.
